The ugly duckling is a coming of age stage play that harps on the youth of today. Its values oriented theme depicts the challenges of growing up. This magical tale is a new take on the Hans Christian Andersen’s classic that we all loved as children.
The story depicts the life of Amiela, the odd duckling who was taunted and laughed at because of her unsightly appearance. Because she was so ugly, she was condemned by her community and was driven away from their land. At a very young age she was forced to learn the hard lessons of life. In the end, she will realize that true beauty is never seen on the onset and this ugly duckling will turn out to be the most beautiful creature of all.
As her journey unravels and conflicts arise, secrets will be spoken, tears will be shed and tons of laughter will fill the air. This enchanting play takes you to an experience that will truly touch your hearts.
This play focuses on relevant issues that face the youth of today as everyone tries to fit in and find their place in society. Love, courage, self esteem and respect are main thrusts of the story. Furthermore, the play reiterates on the importance of dreaming and believing in one’s self.
Join Amiela, Jepoy, Jethro, and Paulo, as they go through the joys and tears of adolescence. Sing, laugh and fall in love with them as they bring out the true beauty in each other.
